Its Time: A visit to America's Traveler's Christmas Tree, otherwise known as the B&O Christmas Holly Tree.
Where: The Christmas Holly, near Perryville MD.
When: Saturday, December 11, 2004 at 3:00 PM. Since its a hike for some, we will probably wait a few minutes more than usual, so come on down. Wet Spot will be happy to have you visit.
Directions: Two choices.
From the North, I-95 South to Newark, exit to 896 North, Left on Route 4, Left on Elkton Road (Rte2). Continue on Elkton Road through Elkton, about 8 miles, and turn Right on Route 40. Proceed on Route 40 just over 10 miles, about 10.2, and turn right on Jackson Station Road. Go 1/4 mile, turn right on Holly Tree Lane, go 1 block, park and hash. Try to park on the right, away from the booth and closest to the road. There is decent parking, but carpoolers welcome to preserve spots for those showing up just for the tree.
If you are in more of a hurry, or coming from the South, take I-95 to the exit for Perryville, Route 222 East. 1/4 mile to L on Resevoir Road. Proceed about 2 miles to Jackson Station Road, turn right, go over tracks and turn Left onto Holly Tree Lane. Park and Hash.

Why: Because you need to experience Christmas diversity, and you have never seen a Christmas Holly tree. And a taste of history too, the period of passenger trains run by the Baltimore and Ohio Railroad company. And well, its interesting to visit Cecil County, where the no trespassin (sic) sign has replaced the welcome mat, and where slower lower Delaware seems progressive.
Oh yeah: Since B&O gave up, volunteer groups now decorate and light the holly tree annually. Souvenirs are available, including limited edition prints, mugs, sweatshirts, and postcards, or feel free to make a small donation to cover a light or two.
ON ON After: For those of you who aren't cavers, Devil Woman's friends band is at the Red Rose Inn in Jennersville, at 796 and Route 1. Its not as far as you think, and you can visit Devil's House on the way!! (no martinis). Leaving the hash, off of route 40 west just take MD 213 north, about 14 miles to Devils House on the left, 191 Church Road. From there, it's a short jaunt up to Jennersville, about 5 miles on 896 to 796.
