Hockessin HHH Run# 234 La Hasha d'halia 16 Junio 1999 Hash Report Caio ragazzi! Noi fatto una bella notte per fare La Hasha d'ltalia Che una kick ass fest. Yeah, we had about 30 hounds from the great H4 kennel gathering at 2nd and Bancroft Sts.-the outskirts of Little Italy in Wilmington. It was the time of the big Italian festival. Milliones di famiglia galore were suckin' up tons of pastas, subs, cannolis, meat-a balls-a, and other varieties of eye-talian comestibles and washing it all down-a,down-a with beakers full of good old Dago Red. Well, they did have a pitiful excuse for beer to mollify the non-ltalian infidels. Just huge crowds-thousands even!were milling about among the tents, banners, and food stalls. Music blared over the hum of the revelers untl the high point of the evening arrived as the great Roman Legion, now known as the H4, made its grand appearance.. And not one of us was arrested! It all began when we eventually found our way to the start through laybrinthian Wilmington. Our hares (the "live" variety again) were Hornblower, Make an Offer, and Bubblehead. The Hash was launched a little before 7 PM and we rocked and rolled our way through the residential area, mostly angling toward the northeast, and determined to stop short of Philly. We were pretty solidly on the ass-fault except for a short run on the railroad tracks. A steep climb through a patch of shiggy had us back on the ass-fault until we got to the heart of the ltalian Festival--maybe a couple of miles from the start. We lined up for draughts of "near beer" at the "Beer Near" (a pitiful excuse for real beer-Bud or Coors or some shit like that). At least we had a cool-down and thirst quencher in the midst of the milling crowd and revelry. We ran a few good hills, but not much of the trail was off the ass-fault. The ON IN was at a little hole-in-the-wall bar about two blocks from our start. Like sardines in a can--side by wrinkled side---we carried out the ceremonies of the Apres. We had a few Cherries for the DOWN DOWNs and, of course our hares got theirs. Appropriately, we were treated to good spaghetti cassaroles with bread and salads, along with pretty decent pitchers of beer. The evening ended on a somber note when Crib Snatcher arrived with the sad news about Kathleen's losing battle with her cancer. He prepared us for the inevitable which indeed came to pass shortly after. Many of us attended th mass at St. Cyril's on Monday to say fare- well to a sweet and lovely young woman who has left us. Afterwards, the attenders were invited to a wonderful luncheon at the Lamb Tavern in Springfield, where all of us who knew Kathy could bask in the warmth and friendship that she always brought to the Hash. beautiful funeral Maybe she's already running with the Angelic HHH. Up and over the clouds, knee deep in soggy stardust, freakin' out the heavenly hares, and doing Dovwn-Downs with St. Pete. If God has a sense of humor (and we think She does), Blow Harder-bound to get a more elegant name from the AH3-will raise her new Hash House to a holy estate. ON ON Kathleen! We'll miss you...We'll always love you. Buffy wasn't able to attend the funeral, but he sent an e-mail to us computer nerds that I want to share with everybody. It has been a very difficult year for many of us inug many different respects. When one puts the death of a young person in perspective it makes all of our problems pale in comparision. If you are like me, you have spent considerable time in your life deciding where you want to be: physically, mentally, and spirtually. It is defining moments like this that either harden or soften one's heart. lask that this moment soften your heart to the people around you, to how important life is, and what your contribution to it should be. I've witnessed allot of you go through this period with confidence, cheer, and grace, putting aside your own needs for the needs of another. It makes me very proud to call you all friends. | |
